This is the way I test to get the right Lily Lolo foundation shade
First choose a foundation to try based on how warm or cool you think your skin’s undertones are. Do you tan in summer? are your veins more blue (cooler)? or green (warmer)?
Then guess where your skin may sit on the scale from very pale to dark skin shades. From there you can select the shades you want to try. Use the Lily Lolo shade guide to help you
Once you have your shades, prepare your skin by cleansing off all makeup and use either your normal face cream (but let it absorb completely in first) or 2-3 drops of nourishing skin oil like rosehip or argan oil.
Dip your finger in the pot and brush a stripe down your face. Start mid cheek and try to go over the jawline. Then lightly blend it side to side with your finger.
If it looks too orange its too warm for you, too ashy or dirty looking means its too cool. Consider if its too light or too dark as well. Then look at the chart and move in the right direction from there eg. either cooler, warmer, darker or lighter. Test a stripe of the next shade until you think you might have the right one.
Then wipe off your test stripes and take your kabuki brush and apply your chosen shade to just half your face. Take your hand mirror and look directly towards the natural light outside and turn your head left and right while looking in the mirror to compare the shade on half your face with your bare skin. Then continue applying the other half of your face if it looks right for you.
You can keep your leftover test pots and once you have your full sized pot of foundation you can use the samples to make a custom blend for yourself. Just pry off the sifter lid and add in the sample shade and mix. You can do this going from winter to summer eg. if you tan and you find you need to go a bit darker.
I have all the foundation samples with me in Auckland so if you want to arrange a time and find your shade that way just message me
